Six Cities Study records, 1975-1991 (bulk 1980s).

These records were created to administer the Six Cities Study headed by Dr. Benjamin Ferris. The research study examined the effects of fossil fuel emissions, specifically sulfur dioxide (SO2) and respirable particulate air pollution, on the respiratory health of thousands of American citizens. The study prompted the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to revise air quality standards.

Ferris (1919- ) (Harvard, M.D. 1943) has taught environmental health and safety at the Harvard School of Public Health since 1958, and has also served as director of environmental health and safety, Harvard University Health Service since that time.
